KARACHI: On the 38th anniversary of the tragic events of October 31, 1986, MQM-Pakistan Chairman Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui delivered a heartfelt tribute to the victims of the Sohrab Goth and Market Chowk incidents in Hyderabad. In his poignant message, he emphasized the significance of the sacrifices made by these martyrs, referring to them as invaluable assets for the Mohajir community. He underscored that the philosophy championed by MQM-P, which aims to uplift the poor and middle class, has gained traction across Pakistan largely due to the legacy of these martyrs.

Dr. Siddiqui remarked on the contemporary political landscape, noting that while many political parties now profess to advocate for the poor and middle class, only a select few genuinely act upon these principles. He urged all political leaders and party workers to stay connected with the grassroots, actively participating in the lives of the community by sharing in their joys and sorrows and making earnest efforts to address their concerns.

Reflecting on the enduring impact of the October 31 tragedy, Dr. Siddiqui lamented that, despite the passage of nearly four decades, the individuals responsible for these heinous acts remain unpunished. He highlighted the resilience of the MQM-P organization and the Mohajir identity, attributing this strength to the sacrifices of the martyrs. His prayer for the martyrs was one of elevation in status, asking Allah to grant them a place in paradise.

In a call for justice, Dr. Siddiqui demanded the establishment of a judicial commission tasked with investigating all tragedies, particularly the October 31, 1986, Sohrab Goth incident. He stressed the need for transparent investigations to ensure that those responsible for such atrocities are held accountable. This commemoration serves not only as a remembrance of the past but also as a rallying cry for justice and a renewed commitment to the principles of equality and support for marginalized communities in Pakistan.
