ISLAMABAD: Omar Ayub, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, has asserted that Bushra Bibi has been acquitted of her legal cases based on merit, expressing optimism that Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, will also soon be released from custody. In remarks to the media following his appearance in a special anti-terrorism court, Ayub highlighted the plight of PTI members, revealing that over 85 individuals are currently held in military courts.

Omar Ayub noted the ongoing detentions of prominent party figures, including Hassan Niazi and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and expressed solidarity with them, stating, “We salute these sacrifices; they will not be in vain.” He criticized the recent actions taken against PTI members, referencing a peaceful press conference conducted by Kanwal Shauzab and other women outside Adiala Jail, which he claimed was forcibly disrupted. He dismissed Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s previous comments as “completely absurd,” insisting that the cases against PTI leaders are fabricated and reaffirming their commitment to Imran Khan.

The Opposition Leader at National Assembly expressed deep respect for Khan’s resilience, stating, “The way he stands with courage deserves the nation’s salute, and he will be released soon.” In his comments, Ayub raised serious concerns about the conditions in which Imran Khan is being held, reporting that electricity has been cut off in his jail cell, food quality is poor, and access to clean water has been restricted. He shared details about ongoing legal proceedings related to the May 9 case, emphasizing that the hearings would continue in multiple locations, including Lahore and Faisalabad.

Furthermore, Ayub commended Bushra Bibi for her dignified endurance during her nine-month imprisonment, noting that she faced challenges such as tampered food yet remained resolute. In a related legal development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to several government officials, including the interior and law secretaries and the superintendent of Adiala Jail, in response to a petition challenging the withdrawal of prison facilities for Imran Khan. The petition, filed by Noreen Niazi and represented by Advocate Shoaib Shaheen, contends that Khan’s entitlement to B-class facilities has been unjustly revoked.
