ISLAMABAD: In response to interference from 62 members of the U.S. Congress regarding Pakistan’s internal affairs, 160 members of the Pakistani Parliament have written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In the letter, parliamentarians condemned the actions of the founder of PTI, citing instances of political violence and criminal threats, particularly highlighting the massive unrest and vandalism on May 9, 2023. They noted that the PTI founder had incited crowds to attack various government institutions, creating political chaos in the country since August 2014 and May 2022.

The parliamentarians urged the Prime Minister to clarify to U.S. Congress members that their concerns regarding the upcoming February 2024 general elections are unfounded, asserting that the elections are internationally recognized as free and fair. They criticized PTI for attempting to undermine the electoral process, as it had done in previous elections in 2008 and 2013.

The letter further stated that the PTI founder is currently imprisoned on proven charges of corruption and has caused a significant crisis in U.S.-Pakistan relations.
