KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and adjacent areas, including Defence View, Azam Basti, and Akhtar Colony. This disruption is attributed to damage incurred to a 24-inch supply line during excavation work by a third party near the Jam Siddiq Bridge. According to an SSGC spokesperson, emergency repair teams have been deployed to the location to rectify the issue.
SSGC has indicated that gas supply will remain halted in the affected areas until the repairs are completed. Residents can anticipate the restoration of gas service by tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM, provided that the repair work proceeds without delays. In a related development, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has submitted a proposal to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) seeking a substantial increase in gas prices. The company is requesting a hike of Rs 64 per million British thermal units (MMBTU) as it grapples with a significant shortfall of approximately Rs 20.58 billion for the current financial year.
This shortfall includes Rs 489 million earmarked for the LPG AirMix project. Additionally, SNGPL will face costs associated with transferring Reversed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for domestic consumers, with prices tied to High-Speed Fuel Oil (HSFO) and crude oil rates.
