DOHA: During his recent visit to Qatar, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in discussions with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, emphasizing the strengthening of bilateral ties across various sectors. The two leaders focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and cultural exchange, reflecting a mutual interest in solidifying the robust friendship between Pakistan and Qatar.
In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted that the purpose of his visit was to deepen the longstanding ties between the two nations, acknowledging Qatar’s significant contributions to Pakistan’s economic growth. He expressed gratitude for Qatar’s ongoing support across different sectors and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to expanding economic collaboration. The Prime Minister also thanked Sheikh Mohammed for hosting a large Pakistani expatriate community, which serves as an essential link between the two countries.
The discussions also addressed global and regional challenges, with both leaders emphasizing the need for peaceful resolutions and mutual cooperation. In a bid to enhance economic cooperation, PM Shehbaz extended an invitation to Qatari investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s diverse economic sectors, including agriculture, information technology, and tourism. He assured potential investors of a conducive environment and discussed incentives that could facilitate their entry into the Pakistani market.
The Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation by the Amir of Qatar and Sheikh Mohammed. He is in Doha for a two-day official visit, having been invited by Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Upon his arrival, he was warmly received by Qatari Minister of State Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, along with Pakistan’s ambassador and other diplomatic staff.
The visit also included cultural initiatives, with PM Shehbaz set to inaugurate the cultural exhibition “Manzar: Art and Architecture in Pakistan from 1940 to Present,” designed to showcase Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and the deep connections between the peoples of both nations. Expressing his enthusiasm on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister looked forward to productive discussions with the Qatari leadership to enhance their brotherly relations.
In a broader context of international cooperation, Saudi Arabia recently announced an additional $600 million investment in Pakistan, bringing the total Saudi investment to $2.8 billion. This announcement followed a successful meeting between PM Shehbaz and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, during which the number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries increased from 27 to 34.
