KARACHI: In a meeting with a delegation of Mohajir leaders at Afaq Ahmed’s residence, Shaukatullah Farooqi, Vice Chairman of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Pakistan), voiced strong opposition to the deteriorating security situation in Karachi, emphasizing that the city would not be allowed to devolve into a tribal area. He highlighted the alarming increase in street crimes and the rising fatalities among young migrants as indicative of a systematic attempt to destabilize the city.
Farooqi criticized the government’s role in establishing hundreds of informal settlements across Karachi, claiming that these areas have become havens for criminal elements. “The government is effectively empowering local residents by providing them with basic amenities while neglecting the security needs of the broader community,” he stated. He pointed out that many of these informal settlements have become zones where law enforcement agencies face restrictions, effectively challenging the authority of the state.
He further expressed concern about the influx of criminal elements from across the country and the unrestricted movement of illegal immigrants within the city. “These individuals operate without fear, engaging in illicit activities that compromise our national security,” Farooqi said. He called upon the Supreme Court and influential circles to pay attention to this critical issue, underscoring that Karachi’s stability is vital for the country’s overall security and survival.
