ISLAMABAD: security forces successfully neutralized six terrorists in two separate intelligence-led operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, according to a statement by the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operations, conducted in the North and South Waziristan districts, come amid a sharp rise in militant attacks across the province. In North Waziristan’s Dosali area, security forces launched an operation after receiving intelligence on militant activities.
Engaging the militants’ position, the troops killed a terrorist identified as Ahmed Shah, effectively dismantling the threat in that area. Meanwhile, in South Waziristan’s Khamrang area, another group of militants attempting to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan was intercepted by security forces. The military effectively engaged the infiltrators, eliminating five militants on the spot and injuring three others, the ISPR confirmed.
This incident underscores the continuing tension along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, a longstanding hotspot for cross-border insurgency. The ISPR reiterated Pakistan’s demand that the interim Afghan government take stricter measures to control border activities, ensuring that Afghan soil is not used as a staging ground for attacks on Pakistan.
“The Interim Afghan government is expected to fulfill its obligations and deny the use of Afghan soil by Khwarij to carry out acts of terrorism against Pakistan,” the military statement asserted, emphasizing that effective border management is critical to regional security. Pakistan has witnessed an alarming uptick in militant activity in recent weeks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Just last week, a suicide bomber targeted a security checkpoint in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, killing at least eight people, including four police officers and two security personnel, and injuring six others.
