ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have pledged to enhance collaboration on border security and counter-terrorism efforts during a joint press conference held in Islamabad on Tuesday. The meeting was led by Pakistani Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

During the press conference, Ishaq Dar welcomed his Iranian counterpart, expressing deep concerns regarding Israel’s actions in Gaza, which he described as violations of international law. He condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Middle East, labeling it a threat to regional stability and emphasizing the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Additionally, he underscored the importance of a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue, advocating for diplomacy as a means to resolve regional conflicts.

The two foreign ministers delved into broader regional dynamics, highlighting their mutual commitment to combat terrorism, which they identified as a shared challenge. “We agree that terrorism is a common challenge for both Pakistan and Iran,” said Ishaq Dar, affirming their intent to cooperate in addressing these threats, particularly at the border.

On the issue of Palestine, both ministers reiterated their strong positions. Abbas Araqchi praised Pakistan’s clear stance on the Palestinian cause, lamenting the international community’s inaction that has facilitated ongoing violence in Palestine. He called for urgent efforts to halt Israeli aggression and advocated for collective action to resolve the crisis. Araqchi also expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its humanitarian assistance to Palestinian and Lebanese refugees, recognizing its role in fostering peace and stability in the region.
