DOHA: The Synergy for Sustainability: Advancing a Greener Future through Chemistry and Engineering Conference, held from November 3-5, 2024, in Doha, Qatar, was a collaborative event organized by the American Chemical Society Qatar Chapter and the Royal Society of Chemistry. The conference focused on the dynamic intersection of chemistry, engineering, and sustainability, aiming to explore innovative solutions to address the pressing global challenges of sustainability.
Over the course of three days, the event brought together professionals, researchers, and industry leaders from across the globe, fostering an environment for sharing ideas, presenting cutting-edge research, and discussing sustainable practices in the context of chemistry and engineering. One of the most significant outcomes of the conference was its role in providing a global platform for research students, offering them the opportunity to present their work on an international stage. This not only enhanced their professional development but also helped showcase the valuable research emerging from Pakistan to a broader, global audience.
Among the participants, Faryal Anjum, a researcher and student from the Federal Urdu University for Arts Science and Technology (FUUAST), stood out with her research work. She was accompanied by her mentor, AP Dr. Urooj Haroon, from the Department of Chemistry at FUUAST, along with a group of students from the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), including Daim, Ali, Amber, and Nida. Together, they presented a poster orientation of their research, contributing to the conference’s mission of advancing scientific dialogue and collaboration.

The presence of Pakistani researchers at such a prestigious event underscores the growing role of Pakistan in global scientific discussions, particularly in fields that impact sustainability and the environment. The exposure to international experts and the collaborative nature of the conference provided these students with an invaluable learning experience and positioned them at the forefront of research that aligns with global sustainability goals.
Overall, the Synergy for Sustainability conference highlighted the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in driving the innovations needed to address the challenges of a sustainable future. Through shared expertise, diverse perspectives, and collective action, the conference demonstrated how chemistry and engineering can work hand in hand to create solutions for a greener and more sustainable world.
