KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has directed the police to make every possible effort to locate a missing man, Saqib Afridi, who has been missing for nine years. The case hearing took place regarding the disappearance of Saqib Afridi, a government employee, who went missing in 2015.
Justice Salahuddin Panhwar questioned the investigative officer about the circumstances of Afridi’s disappearance, asking if he was wanted in any criminal case and had gone into hiding. The officer responded that although a case was registered against Saqib Afridi in 1998, he was acquitted, and there was no evidence suggesting he had gone into hiding.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Abdul Latif Pasha, revealed that Saqib Afridi had worked at the Karachi Heart Disease Hospital, and he was picked up during the wave of enforced disappearances that occurred around the time. Justice Panhwar inquired if Afridi was affiliated with the MQM, to which the prosecutor confirmed that Saqib Afridi had ties to MQM-London.
The court expressed concern over the reasons for Afridi’s disappearance and ordered the police to intensify their efforts to locate him. The investigating officer was also directed to submit a progress report on the case to the relevant magistrate.
