ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has strongly criticised former Prime Minister Imran Khan for allegedly facilitating the return of the Taliban, accusing him of bringing back terrorists who are now responsible for violent attacks in Pakistan. Tarar emphasised the need for unity and self-reliance, drawing on the timeless message of Iqbal’s philosophy.
According to Tarar, Iqbal’s vision of self-reliance is crucial not just for Pakistan but for the entire Muslim world, serving as the key to achieving development and prosperity. Tarar’s remarks came in the wake of a recent bombing at Quetta’s railway station, which he condemned as an act of terrorism. Vowing to root out terrorism from Pakistan, he specifically targeted Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for allegedly bringing back the Taliban, who he claims are now engaging in violent activities across the country.
On a separate front, Tarar also addressed the issue of cricket, asserting that the sport must remain apolitical and confirming that Pakistan would host the Champions Trophy as planned. He stressed the importance of unity within the nation, urging the society to embrace Iqbal’s message and work towards healing the divisions that have plagued communities within Pakistan.
Tarar also spoke candidly about the ongoing crisis in Palestine, expressing his disappointment with the silence of prominent political figures in Pakistan on the issue. He particularly lamented that some political parties chose not to attend an all-parties conference in solidarity with Palestine, a move that he described as a betrayal of national unity. He reminded his audience that no political party should be greater than the country itself, urging leaders to put national interests ahead of party politics.
