KARACHI: Sindh’s Interior Minister, Zia Lanjar, has revealed new developments in the investigation into the recent attack near Karachi’s airport that tragically claimed the lives of two Chinese nationals. Speaking at a press conference alongside IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, Lanjar confirmed that three terrorists involved in the attack have been arrested. The breakthrough in the case came with the recovery of crucial evidence, including the chassis and number plate of the vehicle used in the attack, which significantly aided the identification of the suspects.
One of the assailants, Shah Fahad, was identified through fingerprint analysis. Alongside him, two other suspects, Farhan and Muhammad Saeed, were apprehended for their roles as facilitators. Lanjar stated that Farhan and Muhammad Saeed were traveling with the main assailant in a rickshaw during the attack, underscoring the level of coordination involved. Further investigations have pointed to additional facilitators, including Bilal, a bank employee, and Saeed Ali, who were allegedly involved in planning and executing the operation.
The vehicle used in the attack was purchased in Karachi, with the payment being made through a private bank in Hub, linking several suspects to the financial logistics of the assault. Another key figure in the plot, Jaweed, reportedly communicated with the attackers via phone to inform them when the Chinese nationals were leaving the airport, further highlighting the intricate planning of the operation.
While significant progress has been made, Minister Lanjar also confirmed that other key suspects, including Danish, Gul Rehman, and Bashir Zaid, remain at large. The case continues to unfold, with authorities intensifying efforts to capture the remaining suspects and dismantle the network behind the attack. The arrests thus far have provided crucial leads, and authorities are expected to continue building their case in the coming days.
