KARACHI: The recently concluded Fractional Inactivated Polio Vaccine (FIPV) campaign in Union Council 44, Haji Mureed Goth, stands as a shining example of success achieved through teamwork, dedication, and unwavering commitment. This campaign, aimed at eradicating polio from one of the most challenging regions in Karachi, marked a significant milestone, driven by the collective efforts of health workers, local authorities, and community leaders.
The campaign’s success was largely due to the exceptional leadership of UNICEF Team Lead, Mellisa, whose hands-on approach and frequent visits to various outreach sites were instrumental in energizing and motivating the team. Her recognition of the team’s hard work not only boosted morale but also fostered a sense of unity and purpose among all involved.

Critical to the campaign’s success was the consistent supervision provided by Deputy Commissioner Central Fuad Ghaffar Soomro. His tireless dedication ensured that every aspect of the campaign was meticulously planned and executed. Soomro’s hands-on involvement, often working around the clock, was pivotal in overcoming the logistical and operational challenges that arose during the campaign.
The contributions of key figures such as District Health Officer Abdul Samad, TFP Dr. Khurram, Dr. Sarfaraz, Assistant Commissioner, NSTOP Dr. Zain, MT Ayesha, UCMO Raheela Ajaz, UCOO Shaheen Hashim, CBO Attaullah, and CBO Firdous cannot be understated. While, community influencer, including UC Chairman Javed Bikak,Vice-Chairman Khalid Baloch, UC Secretary Shebaz Shahana, influencer Pervaiz, Feroz, and Abu bakar.

Their collaborative efforts in addressing Human Resources (HR) challenges and tackling PMC refusals were crucial. These leaders ensured that even the most resistant households, such as those in the Feroz Khan Building, were successfully vaccinated, turning obstacles into opportunities for progress.
This success story is not merely about the numbers of children vaccinated; it is about the relentless effort and strategic perseverance in the face of adversity. The campaign’s triumph in UC 44 Haji Mureed Goth serves as a testament to the power of collaboration, where every team member played a vital role in securing a healthier future for the community’s children.

The journey, however, does not end here. The fight against polio continues until the ultimate goal of achieving a “Nala Negative” status is realized, ensuring that every child in the community is protected from this debilitating disease. The success in Haji Mureed Goth is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when communities, leaders, and health workers unite for a common cause.
