KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has lauded the citizens of Karachi and interior Sindh for what it calls a widespread rejection of recent by-elections for local government. An MQM-P spokesperson stated that the low turnout, with many residents abstaining from voting, serves as a clear message of dissent against what they described as a “powerless” local governance system imposed by the Sindh government.
According to MQM-P, the boycott underscores public frustration and dissatisfaction with the current local government framework, aligning with the party’s stance against the by-elections from the start. MQM-P has consistently opposed the Sindh government’s local governance system, arguing that it lacks authority and fails to represent the public interest.
The party claims that the boycott is a testament to the public’s support for MQM-P’s call for a more empowered, transparent, and accountable local governance structure in Sindh.
