KARACHI: Sindh’s Information Minister, Sharjeel Memon, announced the successful outcome of a recent road-checking campaign, revealing that over Rs100 million in taxes had been collected. Speaking at a press conference, Memon highlighted the efforts of the Excise Department, which has impounded 115 unregistered vehicles, while owners of 1,304 vehicles have paid outstanding taxes.

Memon also emphasized the government’s commitment to stricter regulation, stating, “In Pakistan, laws are often taken lightly. The Sindh government will legislate to ensure that unregistered vehicles cannot leave showrooms.” He further noted that proceeds from the sale of premium license plates would be used to fund housing projects for 210,000 low-income families, showcasing the government’s focus on addressing critical social issues.

Turning to public transport, Memon provided updates on the rapid progress of the Red and Yellow Line BRT projects in Karachi, signaling the government’s push to improve the city’s transport infrastructure. He also responded to rumors of political bias against Sindh, stating that the government’s goal is not to undermine anyone’s dignity but to ensure compliance with the rule of law. On the issue of drug abuse, Memon called on parents to be vigilant in monitoring their children, noting that daily arrests were being made for drug offenses.
