The army chief emphasized the collective responsibility of every citizen in combating terrorism, framing the struggle as one that transcends distinctions between civilians and those in uniform

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir delivered a powerful address at an apex committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, firmly warning against any actions that could jeopardize Pakistan’s security or obstruct military operations. His remarks come at a time when the nation faces enduring challenges posed by terrorism and internal governance issues, underscoring the critical need for a united front.

General Munir’s statement carried a dual message: a resolute defense of Pakistan’s sovereignty and a call for collective national effort in the ongoing war against terror. The army chief emphasized the collective responsibility of every citizen in combating terrorism, framing this struggle as one that transcends distinctions between civilians and those in uniform. “In the war against terrorism, every Pakistani is a soldier — some in uniform, others without,” he said, reflecting a sentiment designed to rally the nation around the shared goal of eliminating extremism.

The inclusive approach highlights the essential role of public support in ensuring the success of counterterrorism initiatives. Central to General Munir’s address was his reaffirmation of the military’s constitutional role, which mandates the armed forces to ensure both internal and external security. He issued a direct warning, stating that any individual or group attempting to create obstacles to the country’s security or disrupt the armed forces’ operational duties would face strict consequences.

The statement underscores the military’s zero-tolerance policy towards elements that threaten Pakistan’s stability, signaling a readiness to confront both domestic and foreign challenges with unwavering determination. The general also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, recognizing their role in addressing the governance issues that often exacerbate Pakistan’s security problems.

“Every day, we are addressing the shortcomings in governance through the sacrifices of our martyrs,” he remarked, drawing attention to the human cost borne by those on the front lines of the country’s fight for stability. This acknowledgment serves as both a somber reminder of the sacrifices made and a call to action for improved governance and accountability.

General Munir’s remarks reflect a broader narrative of resilience and unity at a time when Pakistan is grappling with multifaceted threats, including terrorism and political instability. His emphasis on upholding constitutional values and fostering national solidarity is particularly significant as the country navigates a period of economic strain and regional tensions.
