BANNU: In a disturbing incident in Bannu, four mortar shells were fired at the suburban area of Noor, falling within the jurisdiction of the Miryan police station. Two of the mortar shells detonated in an open field near the Tochi River, causing no casualties. However, the remaining two struck Kabalai Road, injuring two civilians identified as Aftab Ali and Nasir. Both victims were immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment, where their condition is being monitored.
The police have initiated an investigation to determine the origin and purpose of the mortar attack. While the motives behind the shelling remain unknown, the incident has raised concerns among the local population. Authorities are exploring whether the attack was a random act or targeted violence, though no specific individual or institution has been identified as the intended target thus far.
This shelling follows closely on the heels of a military operation against militants in the Ghora Bakkakhel area, a nearby region known for sporadic militant activity. Security analysts believe the mortar fire could be a retaliatory act by militant groups aiming to destabilize the area. The timing has further heightened fears among residents, who are already grappling with the aftereffects of conflict in the region.
The attack has underscored the volatile security situation in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where incidents of violence and militant retaliation persist. Authorities have pledged to enhance security measures and conduct a thorough investigation to ensure the safety of residents and prevent future incidents.
