KARACHI: A wave of energy and enthusiasm swept through DHA Phase 8 as over 500 runners gathered for the Green Karachi 5K Run, an event that combined the love of running with a commitment to a cleaner, healthier city. The race, which kicked off from Creek Park and ended at Sea View, was more than just a test of endurance—it was a community-driven celebration of fitness, environmental responsibility, and civic engagement.
The event drew a diverse mix of athletes, environmental activists, and community leaders, all determined to champion the cause of sustainability. In the men’s 5K category, Ali Hassan of Pakistan Navy claimed victory, crossing the finish line in 16 minutes and 20 seconds. His teammate, Shakir, followed closely in second place, while Sajjad from DHA secured third. The women’s 5K race saw Natasha from HEC take the top spot, completing the run in 21 minutes and 30 seconds. Kainat from Karachi United finished second, while Sana rounded off the podium in third.

Runners didn’t just race—they planted saplings as part of the Green Karachi campaign, reinforcing the city’s commitment to urban greenery. In the same spirit, several participants joined the Clean Karachi initiative, collecting litter from the beach to underscore the event’s dual mission of promoting physical health and environmental stewardship.
Commodore (R) Sadid A. Malik (Sitara-e-Imtiaz), Patron-in-Chief of the event, praised the passion of Karachi’s youth, encouraging them to take an active role in community-driven projects. CEO Rais Khan described the run as a powerful testament to collective effort, proving that Karachi’s residents are committed to building a healthier, greener future. Chairman Atif Iqbal echoed the sentiment, pledging to organize more events that blend sports development with environmental sustainability.

The event saw participation from prominent figures, including Atif Iqbal, Chairman of RK Sports Management, Rais Khan, CEO of the organizing committee, Vice Chairperson Iram Fawad, Haji Liaquat Sheikh, CEO of Al Jannat Paint Centre, Zahid Gul Khattak from Karachi United Runners, as well as representatives from the Pakistan Army, Navy, Rangers, and Police.
