KARACHI: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Karachi Pir Mohammad Shah convened a meeting with a delegation of the Goods Carrier Association, led by the President, to discuss the urgent need for improved road safety measures, particularly the mandatory installation of front and rear cameras in dumper vehicles.
The initiative aims to enhance traffic monitoring, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and reduce the rising number of road accidents involving heavy transport vehicles. During the meeting, DIG Traffic emphasized that Karachi’s roads witness a significant number of accidents involving dumper trucks, and past investigations have been hampered by the absence of concrete evidence.
Pir Mohammad Shah directed the association to ensure strict adherence to traffic laws and to implement digital monitoring systems that will allow for continuous driver oversight and facilitate accident investigations. As part of the initiative, he has mandated that all camera footage be retained for at least 15 days to assist in post-accident inquiries.
DIG Traffic made it clear that strict enforcement measures would follow, and dumper owners were given a specific timeframe to install the required camera systems. He underscored that digital surveillance not only helps in holding reckless drivers accountable but also plays a crucial role in preventing accidents, ultimately safeguarding lives on Karachi’s roads.
