HYDERABAD: The passing of Prof Dr Ghulam Qadir Kazi marks the end of an era for the medical and academic community in Pakistan. As the founding president of Isra Islamic Foundation (IIF) and the Chancellor of Isra University, Dr Kazi played a pivotal role in shaping medical education and healthcare in the country.
His contributions to ophthalmology were profound, with an illustrious career that saw him earn prestigious qualifications, including FRCS from Glasgow, FRC Ophth from the UK, and a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology from King Khalid Specialist Eye Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Beyond his clinical expertise, he was a visionary leader who sought to elevate the standards of medical training and service delivery through his role at Isra University.
His funeral, attended by a large number of notable figures, teachers, students, and medical professionals, reflected the deep respect and admiration he commanded within academic and healthcare circles. As he was laid to rest in his ancestral village, Nasarpur, near Hyderabad, his legacy continues to live on through the many students he mentored and the institutions he helped build. Dr Kazi’s passing is a significant loss, not just for Isra University but for the broader medical community in Pakistan. His dedication to education and healthcare will be remembered as an enduring inspiration for generations to come.
