KARACHI: In a devastating incident on Karachi’s Super Highway, six children have tragically lost their lives when the roof of a house in the Janjal Goth Afghan settlement collapsed. The incident also left four people injured, including a woman, a man, and two children.
The victims, all young girls, have been identified as eight-year-old Ishaal, eight-year-old Kainat, seven-year-old Nasreen, three-year-old Ayesha, nine-year-old Sanodia, and fifteen-year-old Saadia. According to police, four individuals sustained injuries, including 37-year-old Nasira, 40-year-old Mikael, and children three-year-old Noman and seven-year-old Asif. Rescue authorities confirmed that the family had guests at the time of the accident.
SSP West Tariq Mustooi stated that several people were injured in the incident when the roof, which was under construction for reinforcement, gave way. Authorities revealed that the roof, made of concrete, could not bear the weight of the sand and gravel being used in the construction process, causing the collapse. The Gulshan-e-Iqbal police confirmed that the weakening of the beams had contributed to the roof’s failure. The affected family hails from Bannu, a region in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This tragic accident has left the local community in shock, with many highlighting the ongoing concerns regarding construction safety and the need for stricter regulations to prevent such incidents.
