PESHAWAR: Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Syed Shahab Ali Shah, on Thursday assured that the challenges faced by journalists from the merged tribal districts will be addressed as a priority.
The commitment was made during a meeting with Aurangzeb Mehsud, Central President of the Tribal Union of Journalists (AUJ), who highlighted several urgent issues affecting media workers from the former FATA regions.
The discussion focused on delays in the implementation of the martyr package for journalists killed in the line of duty, the allocation of special funds for press clubs in the merged areas, and the announced cash grant for the AUJ.
Mehsud expressed gratitude to KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for his supportive stance towards the media, noting that financial assistance for the families of martyred journalists, especially widows and orphans, has been a significant morale booster for the press community.
He urged the Chief Secretary to expedite the removal of bureaucratic obstacles hindering the timely delivery of these benefits. In response, CS KP praised the dedication and professionalism of journalists from the merged districts, recognizing their crucial role in reporting the truth despite difficult circumstances.
