ISLAMABAD: The National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad has opened promising avenues for international collaboration in mental health and cancer care. Organized by NUML’s Department of Psychology, the event featured Professor Nusrat Husain from the Manchester University, UK, marking a pivotal effort to integrate global expertise with Pakistan’s pressing healthcare needs.
During his visit, Professor Husain met with NUML Rector Major General (R) Shahid Mahmood Kayani (M) HI, senior faculty members, students, and administrative leadership. He highlighted the urgent need to address mental health support for women with breast cancer, a disease affecting one in nine Pakistani women and accounting for nearly 40% of all female cancer cases in the country.
The session also shed light on two additional research projects. The first, addressing support for burn survivors, targets a critical health challenge in Pakistan, where burn injuries frequently lead to high mortality and long-term disability. The second project, ACROSS, aims to develop accessible cardiac rehabilitation programs, enabling heart disease patients to recover closer to home.
