KARACHI: Thousands of fishermen, women, and children from Ibrahim Hyderi took to the streets to protest against prolonged and severe load shedding, rallying under the leadership of PPP District Malir President Jan Alam Jamot. The demonstration began at Jamot Housing Society and culminated in a sit-in outside the main office of K-Electric.
Jan Alam Jamot, accompanied by Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum Chairman Mehran Ali Shah, Tabish Baloch, Yousuf Baloch, and other community leaders, highlighted the devastating impact of daily power outages lasting from 6 a.m. to midnight. They emphasized how these outages are crippling the livelihoods of fishing communities and intensifying hardships for already vulnerable groups.
Demanding immediate action, Jan Alam Jamot called for the removal of K-Electric’s General Manager Imran Jamil and insisted on an uninterrupted electricity supply for the fishing settlements. The protesters warned that failure to meet these demands would lead to intensified demonstrations. Strongly condemning what they described as K-Electric’s oppressive practices, the fishing communities pledged to maintain their peaceful struggle until their voices are heard and their basic needs are met.
