KARACHI: Electricity has been restored at Karachi’s Gharu pumping station and filter plant, allowing the crucial water supply to the city to resume at a rate of 30 million gallons per day. The interruption, caused by a cable fault linked to K-Electric, had brought water pumping to a complete halt, sparking concerns about shortages in several key areas.
According to a spokesperson from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, the fault was repaired by 8:20 am, following a power outage that began the previous day at around 10:35 am. The disruption was traced to a failure on the part of K-Electric, which led to a complete shutdown of the Gharu pumping station — a vital facility responsible for supplying water to large parts of the city.
The spokesperson highlighted the importance of the pumping station in maintaining the city’s water supply, noting that it provides 30 million gallons daily. Areas including Port Qasim, Bin Qasim Town, Shah Faisal Town, PNS Mehran, PAF Base Faisal, and Karsaz were among those facing the risk of water shortages during the outage.
Meanwhile, officials from K-Electric confirmed that a regional fault had affected the power supply to the pumping station, leading to the interruption. With the repair complete and power restored, water supply to Karachi has resumed, easing concerns for residents and authorities alike.
