ISLAMABAD: Shahbaz Sharif appeared before a Lahore sessions court via video link in a high-profile damages lawsuit seeking Rs10 billion, filed against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The hearing drew significant attention as it unfolded amid ongoing political tensions between the two major parties.

During the proceedings, the court questioned Shahbaz Sharif about whether he had reviewed the written reply submitted by the PTI founder. Shahbaz responded that he had not read the reply, explaining that he was attending remotely from a closed room, accompanied only by his lawyer, Mustafa Ramday. He also pointed out that no representative or lawyer for the PTI founder was present in the same setting.

Cross-examination by PTI’s lawyer, Mian Muhammad Hussain, focused on the technicalities surrounding the verification of the claim by the oath commissioner. Shahbaz acknowledged that the verification had been carried out but said he was not fully aware of the technical details involved. He clarified that before submitting his affidavit, he had not provided any oral testimony in court and expressed no desire to do so at the time of this hearing.

The exchange grew tense when Shahbaz’s lawyer raised objections, arguing that the questions posed by the PTI founder’s counsel were irrelevant to the matter at hand. The courtroom drama highlighted the legal wrangling often seen in politically charged cases, where procedural and technical points become a battleground alongside the core allegations.
