ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has issued a stark warning about the growing risks India poses to peace and security in South Asia. Speaking at a recent National Economic Council meeting, Sharif highlighted the tense regional environment, while praising Pakistan’s armed forces for their role in what he described as a historic victory in the recent conflict.
The Prime Minister credited the triumph to the professionalism and bravery of the Pakistan military, attributing the success to divine grace, and framing it as a decisive moment of truth for the nation. In a pointed critique, Sharif condemned India’s escalating hostile rhetoric towards Pakistan, labelling it as reckless and irresponsible. He specifically rejected India’s threats to restrict Pakistan’s access to crucial water resources, calling such actions unacceptable and vowing that Pakistan would stand firm.
Drawing on the recent military success, the prime minister expressed confidence that just as Pakistan emerged victorious in conflict, it would similarly prevail in protecting its water supplies. He underscored that India’s confrontational approach threatens the fragile peace of the region and that Pakistan remains united in defending its territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of coordination between the federal government and provincial leaders, announcing plans for consultations with all provincial chief ministers to devise a comprehensive strategy aimed at safeguarding the country’s water resources.
Alongside these security issues, Shahbaz Sharif drew attention to the country’s recent strides toward economic stability, crediting the collaborative efforts of the federal and provincial governments. He highlighted the agricultural sector’s vital role in driving economic growth and boosting foreign exchange earnings, noting that a new strategy is being developed to incrementally increase agricultural production.
The National Economic Council meeting concluded with the unanimous approval of a six-point agenda, underscoring a collective commitment to navigating Pakistan through these intertwined challenges of security and economic development. As tensions simmer in the region, Sharif’s remarks signal a determined stance from Pakistan’s leadership, committed to protecting national interests while fostering economic progress.
