DADU: In a significant cultural milestone for Dadu district, the Pakistan Arts Council has been formally established to promote art, culture, and literature across the region, marking a new chapter in Sindh’s creative development. The council held its inaugural General Body meeting on Sunday under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Azhar Ali Shah, where the first elections for key office-bearers took place.
Tabish Bukhari was elected President, with Nazeer Ali Brohi and Prof. Shabana Nawaz chosen as Vice Presidents. Khalil Arif Soomro was appointed Secretary, Anwar Azad Kandhro Joint Secretary, and Asad Korai Treasurer. The meeting also announced the selection of several well-known cultural personalities, including Manzoor Sakhirani, Masoom Shah Bukhari, Ghulam Qadir Lashari, and Qaimuddin Shah, as heads of different departments.
The newly formed council comprises eight dedicated divisions — Music, Literature, Fine Arts, Media, Library, Documentary, and Publications — each tasked with fostering local talent and preserving Sindh’s cultural identity. The Deputy Commissioner of Dadu will serve as ex-officio Chairman to ensure coordination between government and artistic circles. The initiative has been widely welcomed by local artists as a long-overdue step toward revitalising Dadu’s artistic and literary heritage.
