KARACHI: The Fine Arts Committee of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi hosted a screening of the film trilogy The River Sublime at the Josh Malihabadi Library, followed by a discussion session.
The 26-minute film philosophically and poetically explores three distinct ecological spheres of the Indus River through the artistic perspectives of Nadeem-Al-Karimi, Sadqain Riaz, and Qadir Jhatiyal. Curated by Nusrat Khawaja, the trilogy showcases the natural beauty of the river, its cultural significance, and the environmental challenges it faces, with the aim of raising awareness about its conservation.
During the discussion, moderated by Farrukh Tanveer Shahab, Khawaja explained that the film portrays the contrast between nature and industry, with the artist depicted standing distressed between the river and a factory, reflecting both water and contradiction. She noted that the film highlights factors that are polluting and damaging the river.
Atiqa Malik praised the collective effort of the three artists, who worked on the project for three months, while Bushra Hussain added that the film achieved its final form by combining each artist’s individual ideas. The session underscored the importance of creative collaboration in addressing environmental issues through art.
