KHYBER: Thousands of tribesmen took to the streets of Bara sub-division in District Khyber on Sunday, participating in a large-scale peace march. The demonstrators, representing various walks of life, gathered to demand the nullification of the controversial “Action in Aid of Civil Power Regulations,” which they claim have led to severe abuses and infringements on their rights.
The march, organized by the Bara-based Political Alliance, saw an overwhelming turnout from Bara, Tirrah, and other parts of District Khyber. Protesters chanted slogans calling for peace and an end to insurgency and target killings. Prominent slogans included “Peace now, No to insurgency,” “Stop target killings,” “Justice for all,” and “United against terrorism.” The event was addressed by several notable figures, including MNA Iqbal Afridi, MPA Ghani Khan, MPA Sohail, and alliance leaders Sheerin Afridi, Shah Faisal Afridi, Hamed Ullah Jan, Imran Afridi, Bazar Gul, and Zahid.
The speakers delivered a strong message to the government and state security forces, demanding an end to insurgency and violence in the region. The leaders criticized the government and security forces for their failure to restore order and security in District Khyber, particularly in Tirrah Valley. They condemned the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police for conducting raids without proper warrants and the presence of local police, arguing that such actions violate tribal customs and the sanctity of households.
Addressing the ongoing security situation, the speakers denounced the military operations and formation of local peace committees or Lashkars, asserting that these measures exacerbate the problem rather than solving it. They called for an end to what they described as state-sponsored terrorism that has devastated infrastructure, education, and the economy in the tribal regions, leading to increased poverty and unemployment.
