KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly will host the seventh Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Asia Region conference and the second joint CPA Asia and South-East Asia regional conference from 3 to 7 February 2026. The event marks the first international parliamentary conference held by the assembly since 2012.
The conference, titled “Parliaments of the Future: Redefining Democracy Through Trust, Inclusion, Innovation, and Peace”, will bring together more than 150 parliamentarians, speakers, deputy speakers, and parliamentary experts from 17 legislative bodies across Asia and South-East Asia.
The opening session will be inaugurated by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Owais Qadir Shah will deliver the welcome address, while CPA Chair Dr Christopher Kelela MP and Sindh’s senior minister Sharjeel Inam Memon will also address the gathering.
Plenary and breakout sessions will cover key issues including peace and democratic trust, parliamentary education, fake news, artificial intelligence and misinformation, climate change and environmental legislation, parliamentary accountability, gender, technology, and online harassment.
Speakers and deputy speakers from Sri Lanka, Maldives, Malaysia, and Pakistan’s provincial assemblies—including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir—will participate in the plenary session on peace and democratic trust, with former Senate Chairman Senator Raza Rabbani also addressing the session.
The conference will conclude with speeches from CPA Secretary-General Stephen Twigg and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and the adoption of the Karachi Charter.
