KARACHI: Alamgir Welfare Trust International (AWT) has kicked off a major winter relief initiative in Orangi Town, one of Asia’s largest informal settlements, providing hundreds of underprivileged and low-income families with blankets, quilts, and essential food supplies.
According to a spokesperson for the trust, this drive follows a successful first phase in remote villages and towns across southern Punjab and Sindh, where thousands of needy families received blankets, quilts, and rations.
In the second phase, AWT, in collaboration with volunteers from Sirat‑e‑Mustaqeem Foundation, distributed relief packages to hundreds of families in Rahim Shah Colony, Orangi Town, Karachi West District. Chairman of AWT, Chaudhry Nisar Ahmed, said the donations are being delivered with complete transparency and integrity to ensure that aid reaches those who truly need it.
Director Rehan Yaseen urged the public to actively participate in the winter relief campaign, donating warm clothing, quilts, blankets, and other necessities through both Zakat and non‑Zakat contributions to protect vulnerable families from harsh winter conditions.
Hafiz Muzammil Hussain, chairman of Sirat‑e‑Mustaqeem Foundation, praised AWT for its consistent focus on serving humanity without discrimination of caste, creed, or sect. He noted that organizations rarely focus on underprivileged areas like Orangi Town, but AWT has always been at the forefront of community service in the area.
AWT also supports free medical services at Sirat‑e‑Mustaqeem Foundation clinics, providing essential medicines to both poor and low-income residents of Orangi Town. Residents receiving the aid expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Alamgir Welfare Trust International, calling the initiative a blessing and praising the trust for its continued humanitarian work.
