KARACHI: In a forceful statement, Ali Khurshidi, the leader of the opposition and a prominent figure in the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) within the Sindh Assembly, has condemned the extended and unannounced electricity outages that have become a distressing reality for residents in the region. Characterizing the current situation as an “inhumane act,” Khurshidi expressed his profound concern over the relentless 14 to 18 hours of power cuts that many citizens have endured, particularly during the scorching summer months.
Criticism directed at power companies, notably K-Electric and HESCO, underscores Khurshidi’s frustration with the handling of the electricity crisis. He argued that these providers are recklessly “playing with the lives of the public,” seemingly indifferent to the struggles faced by everyday citizens. He elaborated, stating, “These electricity providers are testing the patience and tolerance of the citizens,” drawing attention to the palpable anger and desperation among the affected populations.
The situation has reached a boiling point, especially in major urban centers such as Karachi, Hyderabad, and Mirpur Khas, where residents have been left grappling with the implications of frequent power outages. Khurshidi described these interruptions not just as inconveniences but as a severe injustice inflicted upon the communities that rely on consistent electricity for both their daily lives and livelihoods.
In light of this crisis, the opposition leader has called upon the Prime Minister of Pakistan to take immediate notice of the dire circumstances surrounding the extended and unannounced load shedding. He urged the government to act swiftly to alleviate the suffering of the people, highlighting the pressing need for effective measures that address the root causes of this ongoing energy crisis.
