MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned the killing of Iranian security chief Ali Larijani as a “blatant assassination,” stating that all principles of morality and international law have been trampled upon. Expressing grief over the martyrdom of Dr Ali Ardeshir Larijani, Putin said in a message addressed to Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei that Larijani was a true friend whose role in strengthening relations with Russia will always be remembered.
The Russian president’s strong condemnation comes as international reactions continue to pour in following the Israeli strike that killed Larijani, his son Morteza, aide Alireza Bayat and several bodyguards near Tehran. Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has also termed the killing unacceptable, stating that China is making mediation efforts in the conflict. According to the ministry, Chinese special envoy Zhai Jun has already held meetings with senior officials in the Middle East as part of ongoing diplomatic initiatives to de-escalate regional tensions.
