PESHAWAR: In a notable development for public health in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), the provincial Health Department has announced the complete recovery of all monkeypox patients in the region. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the province’s efforts to manage and contain the outbreak of the disease.
Irshad Ali, the Director of Public Health, confirmed that the last patient, who resided in Mardan, has been declared fully recovered following a negative PCR test result. This declaration means that there are currently no active cases of monkeypox in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The successful recovery of this final patient follows the earlier discharge of three other individuals who had been treated and sent home.
The Health Department’s swift and effective response played a crucial role in containing the outbreak. Key to this success was the implementation of rigorous public health measures and diligent monitoring at critical entry points. Continuous screening at major transit hubs, including Bacha Khan International Airport and the Torkham border, helped prevent further spread of the virus. These efforts ensured that the outbreak was managed effectively and brought under control within a relatively short period.
The containment of the monkeypox outbreak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reflects the province’s capacity to address and control infectious diseases through proactive strategies and efficient public health interventions. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of the province’s health authorities in safeguarding public health and responding to emerging health threats.
