KARACHI: Today, November 9, we honor the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, one of the most influential thinkers, poets, and philosophers in the Muslim world. Known as the “Poet of the East,” Iqbal’s legacy transcends borders, as his vision of a united and empowered Muslim community continues to resonate deeply, not only within Pakistan but throughout the Islamic world.
Iqbal was not only a gifted poet but also a visionary whose ideas laid the groundwork for the demand for a separate homeland for Muslims in the Indian subcontinent. His call for self-awareness, unity, and spiritual awakening stirred a generation of Muslims, inspiring them to seek dignity, freedom, and identity at a time when colonial rule overshadowed their aspirations. His concept of Khudi (selfhood) encouraged Muslims to rediscover their individual and collective potential, teaching that true empowerment comes from within, by building strength through self-respect and a higher moral purpose.
His poetry, whether in Persian or Urdu, remains a beacon for those seeking wisdom and guidance. Through his verse, Iqbal emphasized that faith and intellect could harmonize, offering both spiritual elevation and practical solutions to worldly challenges. His powerful lines, such as “Sitaron se aage jahan aur bhi hain” (There are worlds beyond the stars), remind us that there are endless possibilities waiting if we have the courage to dream and act upon those dreams.
Today, as we remember Iqbal, may we strive to carry forward his legacy of enlightenment, unity, and resilience. May we honor his ideals through a renewed commitment to self-discovery, compassion, and justice in our lives. May God elevate his status in the hereafter, and may we be guided by his wisdom to build a world that reflects his vision of a unified and empowered community.
