LAHORE: Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, has voiced serious concerns over a government-proposed bill, stating that it poses a significant threat to the nation amid the current political and economic instability. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Rehman urged the government to reconsider its approach and abandon the controversial bill.
Rehman also discussed the growing influence of Jamaat-e-Islami’s “Haq Do Awam Ko” movement, which has garnered widespread support across Pakistan. He pointed out rising unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, attributing the nation’s instability to pro-American policies, which he believes have undermined Pakistan’s sovereignty and national interests. During his address, the Jamaat leader emphasized the need for democratic freedoms, particularly the right to protest and hold rallies.
Naeem called on Ali Amin Gandapur, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to engage in dialogue with Afghanistan and other key stakeholders to promote peace. Rehman suggested that if negotiations can be successful in conflict-ridden areas such as Bannu and Lakki Marwat, similar discussions could lead to positive outcomes in other regions. Additionally, Rehman demanded that Gandapur issue a public apology for his derogatory remarks towards journalists, asserting that such behavior erodes public trust in the government and democratic institutions.
The Jamaat leader also raised concerns about Pakistan’s election process, criticizing the conduct of by-elections and expressing doubts about the impartiality of the Election Commission. Rehman highlighted the need for a thorough inquiry into recent allegations made by PTI leader Salman Akram Raja, who claimed that efforts were being made to manipulate a constitutional amendment for the benefit of a favored judge. Rehman’s remarks underscore the deepening mistrust in Pakistan’s electoral and judicial systems.
