LAHORE: Quetta Gladiators’ fast bowler Mohammad Amir has addressed the growing speculation about a rivalry with Pakistan captain Babar Azam after his animated celebration following Babar’s dismissal during a match against Peshawar Zalmi went viral.
In an interview after the game, Amir firmly downplayed any personal conflict, stating, “There’s no fight with anyone on the field — aggression is just part of fast bowling, and fans enjoy that.” The moment, which sparked significant attention on social media, also featured an exchange with West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards, who advised Amir to maintain his composure. Amir acknowledged this advice but reiterated that his primary focus remains on his bowling and not any specific player.
“Babar is a top batter,” Amir said. “I always come with a plan for him. If I’m having success against him, so be it — my focus stays on my bowling, not who the batter is.” Amir’s comments suggest that while his fiery on-field demeanor might be misinterpreted as a personal rivalry, it is merely an expression of his competitive spirit as a fast bowler.
