RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has announced the seizure of drugs worth over Rs10 million in a series of operations targeting the sale and smuggling of narcotics around educational institutions and other areas across the country. According to a spokesperson for the ANF, a total of 81.806 kilograms of drugs were confiscated in 13 separate operations, leading to the arrest of 12 suspects.
Details of the operations revealed significant recoveries: 1.8 kg of hashish was seized near Empress Market in Karachi, while 490 grams of hashish were confiscated near Fateh Chowk in Hyderabad. Additionally, 46 grams of heroin were found in a parcel at a courier office on RCD Road in Hub, en route to Karachi. In Hyderabad, authorities recovered four kg of hashish near a university and 230 grams from Bidera Chowk in Mansehra.
At Multan Airport, a passenger bound for Bahrain was apprehended with 2.4 kg of ice (methamphetamine). In Gujranwala, officials seized 16.6 kg of hashish and 1.44 kg of ice from various locations. Meanwhile, near Sibi Road in Quetta, 1.5 kg of heroin and 500 grams of ice were recovered, along with 25 kg of hashish from Panjgur. In Islamabad, authorities confiscated 1.2 kg of opium and 12 kg of hashish near Chungi No. 26.
Furthermore, 10 kg of heroin was seized from a vehicle on the M-1 motorway, and 4.8 kg of hashish was recovered near Koh-e-Noor Mills in Rawalpindi, resulting in the arrest of two additional suspects. In a parallel crackdown in Balochistan, the ANF intensified efforts against drug smuggling, arresting three suspects. In two separate operations, a total of 68 kilograms of drugs, valued at Rs4,700,000, were seized.
The first operation, conducted near Sariab Road in Quetta, led to the recovery of 20 kilograms of cannabis from three individuals. A subsequent operation on the coastline of Gwadar uncovered 48 kilograms of cannabis hidden in bushes. All suspects have been charged under the Anti-Narcotics Act, and investigations into their activities are currently underway. The ANF’s operations reflect a concerted effort to combat drug trafficking, particularly in areas frequented by youth, underscoring the ongoing challenges of narcotics-related crime in Pakistan.
