SUKKUR: A meeting of the Gender and Disability Electoral Working Group was held at the office of the Regional Election Commissioner under the chairmanship of Adnan Bashir, regional election commissioner Sukkur, to strengthen inclusive participation in elections.
In his address, Bashir highlighted the critical importance of meaningful and effective participation of women and persons with disabilities in the electoral process. He briefed participants on the Election Commission of Pakistan’s initiatives to promote inclusive voting and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to further strengthen electoral inclusion through coordinated efforts with relevant institutions and stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by district election commissioners of Sukkur, Khairpur and Ghotki; assistant election commissioners; senior officers from NADRA; representatives from the Social Welfare Department, PWD, Local Government and Colleges Department; and members of civil society and human rights organizations.
Participants reviewed progress under the Integrated National Voter Registration (INVR) program, discussed challenges, and put forward actionable recommendations to enhance inclusive participation. Discussions focused on registration of women and special voters, voter awareness initiatives, and measures to ensure a fully inclusive electoral process. The meeting concluded with a consensus on a roadmap to promote transparent, fair and participatory elections.
