ISLAMABAD: Three people, including an army captain and a soldier, were killed after an avalanche struck during a snow clearance operation at Burzil Pass, the Pakistan military has said.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the incident occurred while forces were clearing snow to restore operational movement in the area. Those killed were Captain Asad, soldier Rizwan and a civilian machine operator, Isa. The operation was being supervised by Captain Asad at the time of the incident.

According to the ISPR, Captain Asad, aged 28, was from Lahore, while soldier Rizwan hailed from Attock. The civilian machine operator, Isa, was a resident of Astore.

The military said the avalanche struck at around 2am on 3 January amid harsh weather conditions. All three lost their lives while carrying out duties aimed at ensuring the safe movement of forces despite severe winter conditions.
