Speaking on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, observed globally on September 15, Sadiq emphasized that democracy empowers citizens by allowing them to choose their leadership through the power of the vote.
He elaborated that the essence of democracy lies in the people electing their representatives, who in turn legislate and form policies in alignment with the public’s aspirations. “Democracy guarantees freedom of expression and other basic rights,” the Speaker remarked, adding that the progress and prosperity of a nation are intrinsically linked to the uninterrupted functioning of democratic systems.
Sadiq reiterated that democracy allows citizens to actively participate in the country’s political, social, and economic spheres through their elected representatives. He pointed out that this system not only secures freedom of opinion but also enables citizens to have a direct say in choosing their leadership. The Speaker stressed that reinforcing the democratic process is crucial to building a stable and resilient society, encouraging political parties to set aside their differences and work together for the betterment of the country.
