Military teams stepped in to aid stranded residents and travelers, offering vital support as harsh conditions left communities isolated for days

KURRAM/ZHOB: Army launched extensive rescue operations across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as unusually heavy snowfall and severe winter weather brought life in many parts of the region to a standstill.

Military teams were deployed to assist residents and stranded travelers, providing critical support amid treacherous conditions that left numerous communities cut off for days. Security sources said that control centers had been established in key districts including Hoshri, Ziarat, Bolan, Zhob, and Qila Saifullah, while additional hubs operated at strategic mountain passes and towns such as Khojak Top, Lak Pass, Duki, Kolpur, and Muslim Bagh.

These centers were tasked with coordinating relief efforts, ensuring that aid reached the areas most affected by the storms, and facilitating the movement of rescue teams through snowbound roads.

Troops and rescue personnel worked around the clock to evacuate people trapped by the heavy snowfall, distributing food, medical aid, and temporary shelter to locals and tourists alike. In Kurram District, army engineers and security forces joined forces with heavy machinery to clear blocked roads, restoring safe passage for stranded travelers. Soldiers were also reported to have transported passengers stuck on highways to secure locations, while parallel operations continued in the snowbound Tirah Valley, highlighting the army’s logistical capacity in challenging terrain.

Officials emphasized that the swift deployment of troops had been crucial in mitigating the risks posed by the extreme winter conditions. The coordinated response not only reduced the immediate dangers to civilians but also demonstrated the broader role of Pakistan’s armed forces in providing humanitarian assistance during natural crises.

Residents affected by the storms praised the army’s efforts, with many describing the rapid arrival of food, blankets, and medical care as lifesaving. The operation also underscored the vulnerability of remote communities during severe weather, particularly in mountainous districts where transportation and communication networks are limited.

The winter storms served as a reminder of the challenges posed by Pakistan’s rugged geography, while the military’s response highlighted its capacity to act decisively in emergencies. By combining manpower, technical resources, and logistical planning, the army was able to prevent further casualties, reinforce public safety, and restore essential access to isolated regions, reaffirming its dual role in both national security and civilian protection.
