BEIJING: Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Prof. Muhammad Yunus, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, engaging in a high-level discussion aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and China. The meeting underscored both nations’ commitment to expanding economic cooperation, trade partnerships, and investment in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and regional connectivity.
During their exchange, Chief Adviser Yunus and President Xi reviewed ongoing projects and explored new avenues for collaboration, reflecting China’s growing role in Bangladesh’s development landscape. The conversation also touched on broader regional stability and economic integration, aligning with Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative, in which Bangladesh plays a strategic role.
Following the meeting, Yunus is set to participate in an Investment Dialogue at The Presidential Beijing, where he will engage with Chinese business leaders to highlight Bangladesh’s investment potential. The session will emphasize Bangladesh’s robust economic growth, strategic location, and government policies designed to attract foreign direct investment in manufacturing, energy, and technology sectors.
His visit also includes three high-level roundtable discussions focusing on sustainable infrastructure and energy investment, Bangladesh’s evolving manufacturing sector, and the role of social business and youth entrepreneurship in fostering economic transformation. These sessions bring together prominent Chinese CEOs, policymakers, and key industry stakeholders to facilitate deeper economic engagement and forge new business alliances.
Accompanying him are senior government officials, including Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain, Energy and Transport Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, High Representative to the Chief Adviser Khalilur Rahman, SDGs Affairs Coordinator Lamiya Morshed, and Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
