BANNU: In a tragic incident that has cast a somber shadow over the domestic cricket scene, 24-year-old fast bowler Aleem Khan passed away after suffering a fatal heart attack during a PCB Challenge Cup match in Bannu. The young cricketer collapsed on the field while delivering a ball and was rushed to hospital, but doctors were unable to revive him.
According to umpire Inamullah Khan, the moment was sudden and shocking. Aleem was mid-delivery when he faltered and fell to the ground, prompting immediate concern from players and officials alike. The match was halted as efforts were made to get him medical attention, but despite swift intervention, he could not be saved.
His funeral was held soon after, and family sources confirmed that he has been laid to rest in his hometown. The local cricket community, still reeling from the incident, has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a young life that had shown such promise. Tributes have poured in from fellow cricketers, coaches, and fans, many remembering him as a passionate and disciplined player who had dreams of making it to the national side.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to issue an official statement, but the tragic incident has raised concerns about medical screening and emergency preparedness in domestic tournaments. While sudden cardiac events are rare in sport, they are not unheard of, and Aleem’s passing serves as a painful reminder of the physical risks even young athletes can face.
