KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has ordered that all reports related to the case of a missing Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker, who has been unaccounted for since 2019, be submitted to the magistrate. This decision came during a recent hearing that sought to shed light on the disappearance of the government employee, identified as Haider, who went missing from the jurisdiction of the Boat Basin police station in Karachi four years ago.
During the proceedings, the court sought clarification on Haider’s background, questioning whether his disappearance was linked to his political affiliations or any potential criminal activity. Haider’s lawyer, representing the petitioner, emphasized that the individual had been missing for an extended period, but there was no information indicating any illegal activities or wrongdoing on his part.
The investigating officer confirmed that Haider had ties to the MQM, but clarified that he did not have any criminal record. Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, in his remarks, emphasized that political affiliation alone should not be considered a crime, asserting that “Being affiliated with MQM is not a crime. Does this mean anyone linked to MQM can be made to disappear?” The judge’s comments reflect a broader concern about the treatment of individuals based on political affiliation, highlighting the importance of safeguarding basic rights and freedoms regardless of political ties.
The court’s order for the submission of all related reports to the magistrate marks an important step in the ongoing efforts to trace Haider and hold accountable those responsible for his disappearance.
