ISLAMABAD: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, held a high-level meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the latter’s residence in Islamabad to deliberate on pressing political and parliamentary matters. The consultations, according to sources, provided a platform for both leaders to discuss developments within Pakistan’s political landscape and explore avenues for coordination between their parties.
According to sources, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari briefed Maulana Fazlur Rehman on his recent consultations and ongoing political developments, outlining possible paths for collaboration. Senator Kamran Murtaza noted that the meeting had been constructive, focusing on areas where the parties could coordinate and align on shared priorities.
Among the key topics on the agenda was the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment, an issue that has been generating debate across political circles. The meeting also reportedly touched upon broader regional concerns, including the ongoing situation in the Middle East, reflecting the leaderships’ recognition of external factors influencing domestic and foreign policy considerations.
The discussions were attended by senior figures from both parties. From the PPP side, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Naeem Hussain Bukhari, and Chaudhry Yaseen joined the talks, while the JUI-F delegation included Kamran Murtaza and Asad Mehmood. Their presence highlighted the emphasis on ensuring continuity and detailed engagement in areas of mutual interest.
While the session remained primarily consultative, analysts suggest that such engagements could signal attempts by both parties to consolidate political consensus amid a dynamic parliamentary environment. The meeting underscored the continued importance of dialogue among Pakistan’s major political forces, particularly as legislative and constitutional matters converge with wider regional and domestic considerations.
