KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari stated on Monday that his party would only be satisfied when tangible development work is initiated for Karachi, while firmly asserting that all such projects must align with the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Bilawal confirmed that discussions have been held with the federal government regarding a development package for the metropolis. “We will be happy when work is done for Karachi,” he said, adding a significant caveat: “Whatever development work takes place, it should be in accordance with the 18th Amendment,” reinforcing his party’s stance on provincial autonomy.
The PPP chairman began his address by paying an emotional tribute to his mother, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, on the anniversary of the 2007 Karsaz attack. “Shaheed BB was the voice of the poor,” he stated. “She embraced martyrdom while fighting terrorists… and continued her struggle until the end.”
Bilawal connected this legacy to the party’s current agenda, noting that a Central Executive Committee meeting was scheduled later in the day to review the country’s political situation. On international affairs, he described recent developments in the Middle East as a “major success,” but expressed cautious optimism regarding Gaza, noting that while there is hope, serious concerns remain.
