KARACHI: In a dramatic early morning incident in Clifton, Karachi, a fire engulfed a plot near the Qurtuba Mosque in Clifton Block 1, leading to the partial or complete destruction of more than 30 vehicles. The blaze broke out among a collection of abandoned vehicles, escalating rapidly and prompting an immediate response from local authorities.
The fire was first reported to the Central Command and Control at approximately 6:30 AM, although firefighting teams from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had already been alerted around 5:30 AM. In response, two fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, followed by additional support as the situation intensified. Local police quickly arrived and requested further assistance from the KMC Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122.
Firefighters worked diligently for about one to one-and-a-half hours to bring the fire under control. Their efforts were successful, with no casualties reported despite the extensive damage to the vehicles involved. According to a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, more than 20 of the abandoned vehicles were completely burned, highlighting the severity of the incident. The vehicles affected by the fire are reportedly government-owned, raising questions about their maintenance and the conditions leading to the fire.
As investigations continue, authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the blaze. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with unattended vehicles and the importance of effective fire prevention measures in urban areas. Local residents expressed their concerns regarding the fire, emphasizing the need for better management of abandoned vehicles in the vicinity to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The Karachi administration is expected to address these issues as part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety in the area.
