SUKKUR: The remains of Pakistani pilgrims who tragically lost their lives in a bus accident in Iran will be flown back to Sukkur today, A special flight carrying the bodies is scheduled to land at Sukkur Airport between noon and 1 PM, where preparations have been made to ensure a dignified transfer. Grieving families, who have been anxiously awaiting the return of their loved ones, will be present at the airport to receive them.

The tragic accident took place on Tuesday night in Iran’s central province of Yazd. A bus carrying 51 Pakistani pilgrims, en route to Iraq for the observance of Arbaeen or Chelum of Hazrat Hussain (RA), overturned and caught fire near the Dehshir-Taft checkpoint. This horrific incident resulted in the loss of at least 32 lives, while several other passengers sustained injuries of varying severity.

The aftermath of the accident has seen a coordinated response from both Iranian and Pakistani authorities. The Iranian and Pakistani foreign ministries have expressed deep condolences to the families affected by the tragedy. Pakistan’s Foreign Office has taken immediate action, instructing the consul in Zahedan to visit the accident site. The consul’s duties include overseeing the provision of medical aid to the injured and facilitating the swift repatriation of the deceased back to Pakistan.

The return of the bodies marks a sorrowful chapter for the families of the victims, as the Arbaeen pilgrimage, a period typically reserved for reflection and remembrance, has been overshadowed by grief and loss. The devastating incident has plunged communities across Pakistan into mourning, as they prepare to lay their loved ones to rest.
